Sustainable Purchasing

Since the end of 2022, the Lisboa City Council has become the first organization - public and private - in Portugal to achieve recognition for implementing the Sustainable Purchasing system according to ISO 20400. Sustainable purchasing is primarily about consuming responsibly and assessing the need for purchases. It involves integrating sustainability into all phases of public procurement by including environmental, social, and economic sustainability criteria in the procedural documents. With the approval of the Municipal Budget Regulation for 2023, along with a set of foundational documents, the municipality of Lisban is creating internal and external organizational conditions so that meeting present needs does not compromise meeting future needs. This is a path that involves all stakeholders, including our suppliers.
