Theater in Every Neighborhood

The “Theater in Every Neighborhood" project aims to create a network of cultural spaces throughout the city of Lisbon, bringing communities and cultural agents together. This initiative, promoted by the Lisboa City Council, seeks to expand and reach new audiences who consume culture. This projetc is designed for everyone, and everyone can be called upon to participate in its Conception. Everyone can benefit from its enjoyment. This cultural project is also seen in a fair and equitable approach to the distribution and dissemination of opportunities.
"Theater in Every Neighborhood" reinforces the commitment to decentralize cultural activities from the city center to other areas, meeting the needs of not only the majority of Lisbon residents who do not live in the historic center. Thus, it contributes to territorial balance and a to foster a cultural offering that is concerned with more rational and distributive resource management, providing resources and programming initiatives in spaces that combine innovation and creativity, as well as serving as performance venues and offering other features.
The first “Theater in Every Neighborhood” to open its doors operates in a municipal neighborhood is called Teatro Avenidas.
With the aim of providing a participatory and locally-focused cultural experience, the intervention of Teatro Avenidas has a specific impact on the Avenidas Novas parish, with a particular focus on the people living, studying, and working in the Bairro do Rego. It involves local agents, artists, and merchants, aiming to promote accessibility, democratization, and proximity. However, on a larger scale, it also aspires to be a reference in the cultural landscape and dynamic cultural offerings of the city of Lisbon.
